Organic certification
The organic story at Seresin
One of the greatest things about Seresin Estate is the organic certification. This came relatively early on for Seresin, who was dismayed by the amount used and the impacts of man made chemicals, which were routinely and frequently sprayed on vines. His early adopting philosophy of organic certification paved a positive path for the integrity of the wines as well as leading others to follow suit.
A complex, dry, super succulent Sauvignon Blanc from the great North Canterbury wine region; one of the most unsung areas in New Zealand's wine industry. This superb Sauvignon Blanc shows why. Concentrated deep and rich flavours of ripe passionfruit combine with creamy textures and a long finish in a great white that is dry, expressively Kiwi in taste and sings of the South Island's potential for outstanding white wines.
Churton Estate's Natural State Pied de Cuve is made by second generation winemakers, Ben and Jack Weaver, who use grapes from the Loin Vineyard, which is family owned and farmed using biodynamic principles. This Sauvignon Blanc was whole bunch pressed into old oak puncheons and fermented with wild yeasts which were cultured from the vineyard. It was aged for a year on yeast lees and bottled without fining or filtration, so it is vegan friendly. A small addition of SO2 was added at bottling to retain freshness.
Churton Estate founder and winemaker Sam Weaver cut his teeth on the classic wines of the world while working in fine wine retail in the United Kingdom. He and his wife Mandy Weaver then moved to New Zealand and set about creating one of this country's most focussed small wineries; a brand that does live up to the dream of creating 100% estate grown grapes, 100% certified organic production and 100% bottled on site, nearly all of the wines without fining or filtration. All the grapes are hand picked and natural yeasts ferment the vast majority of wines they make. These qualitative decisions impact every step of their winemaking in a positive fashion, providing exceptional quality grapes which in turn express themselves in outstanding wines.
The Natural State wines are the brainchild of second generation family winemakers, Ben and Jack Weaver.

Unit price perThis Sauvignon Blanc is a great example of the Martinborough terroir. The nose is lush with tree fruit and mineral notes. A creamy texture and lower acidity add real weight and fullness to the wine, along with some mild fruity flavours on the palate.
$42.99
Unit price perBold, rich and dry with powerfully fruity aromas and depths of deliciousness. This wine is a super intensely purple hued red made from Alicante Bouchet, a red fleshed grape, which ripens to surprisingly low sugar levels and lends itself to having a modest level of alcohol with stacks of flavour intensity. Alicante is a cross of Petit Bouschet (itself a cross of Teinturier du Cher and Aramon) with Grenache. It makes wine that tastes of cherries and spice.
We love the interesting different take on light red vs rose that this wine offers. A must try in summer. Serve chilled.
Rockford Wines' legacy
Rockford Wines is an icon itself and a relatively new one, established in 1971 by Robert O'Callaghan, who has forged a reputation for preserving winemaking tradition and saving many of the world's oldest grape vines from being pulled up in the Australian Government's vine pull schemes of the 1970s and 1980s.
The Rockford vintage shed houses equipment from 50 to 100 years ago, which was discarded by other wineries as modernisation took over.

Unit price perDice is a New Zealand first - a wine with a vintage which is high quality, fun and funky in a 2-litre box, which puts a new spin on the well known theme of convenience because this wine is all about quality, no holds barred. A blend of Pinot Noir grapes from several vineyards in Bannockburn is used to create this superlative, deliciously good Pinot Noir with its bright bold cherries and ripe fruit flavours underpinned by a medium body and smooth texture in a wine with a long finish.
$44.99
Unit price perFruity dark flavours and uber complex in taste, this new Gamay from Dicey offers a spectrum of blackcurrant fruit flavours and impressive depth of flavour from 16% whole bunch fermentation while the majority (84%) of fruit was destemmed. Wild yeast fermentation and natural malolactic fermentation were followed by ageing in old oak barrels (considered neutral in terms of flavour).
The wine was bottled unfined and unfiltered.
$37.99
Unit price perElegant Chablis-like Chardonnay with creamy notes and balancing acidity due to the cool climate of Central Otago's Inlet Vineyard in Bannockburn. Grapes in this wine were picked in two lots with the first pressed directly to barrel and the second lot left overnight then whole bunch pressed to barrel where they were fermented with wild yeasts and stirred weekly to encourage flavour integration from lees (yeast cells from fermentation) contact. The wine was aged in French oak, just 16% of it new and then bottled unfined but filtered.

Unit price perFull bodied, complex, dry as a bone made in a delicious modern, lively style of French Riesling with refreshing lime and green apple aromas supported by bright acidity and a waxy texture. This wine is made with grapes grown an 25 year old vines on a vineyard originally planted in the 17th Century at Rouffach in Alsace. This most eastern wine region in France was once part of Germany, hence Riesling is one of the key wines made here, and the Mure family have retained ownership of their vineyard and brand for 12 generations now.
$99.99
Unit price perOne of the greatest Rieslings from a special vineyard site. We receive a small allocation of this exceptionally beautifully balanced medium dry Riesling. It's made from one of Germany's great Rieslings from a hallowed vineyard site that has been revered for centuries for its ability to ripen this great white grape to a peachy flavour spectrum while retaining fresh lime zest aromas and crisp balancing acidity for a long finish.
What the critics say...
Lively and subtle nose of ripe yellow apple, white peach and wild flowers. Juicy and elegant with a vibrant acidity
that lights this up beautifully. A touch of perceptible grape sweetness at the front of the medium-bodied palate, but
the long, wet stone finish is admirably dry. Spot on balance. Drink or hold.

Unit price perSmooth earthy flavours intermingle with dark cherry flavours in this new Pinot Noir which is made with grapes grown on a well established, older vineyard site which has a new lease of life, in the centre of Martinborough. The 3.5 hectare vineyard was established by the Brodies who sold it to Eva and Ross Mackay in 2018. The new name is Dublin Street Wines, the first vintage being from the high quality 2019 vintage followed by the great 2020 one. Both years were beautifully high quality ones for wine with dry settled weather, which produced great quality grapes that translated into very good wines.
The vineyard is entirely devoted to Pinot Noir and planted with five different clonal variations (114, 115, 667, 777 and 5).
The aim of the game now is to reduce oak use in the wines, replacing it with whole bunch and wild yeast fermentations; two winemaking tools that can accentuate structure and savoury flavour aspects, without dominating.

Unit price perThis wine is a labour of love and was made from hand picked grapes grown on the organically certified Ashmore Vineyard in Fairhall, Marlborough. A combination of spontaneous yeast and inoculated ferments (50/50) were taken to 12.5% ABV and residual sugar of 19.5 grams per litre, which makes this wine medium dry in style. It tastes like lemon zest and fresh ripe Granny Smith apples on speed… a gorgeous refreshing, full bodied Marlborough white wine made from one of the greatest grapes on Earth.
A must try.
$79.99
Unit price perA great wine from Morrison Vineyard in Central Otago that ticks every box from being a silky textured, seductive Pinot Noir to drink now and is a keeper with its fantastic structure. New oak is kept intentionally low here with 15% adding support and smoothness while an overall 50% whole bunch fermentation adds the shoulder pads without dominating here.
Winemaker Duncan Forsyth describes Morrison Vineyard Pinot Noir as a total sleeper, a taut wine that delivers concentration and power which belies the initial impression. It is, he says, the quintessential steel fist/velvet glove.
$52.99
Unit price perEarthy notes and freshly crushed forrest leaves lead the aromas in this complex and smooth Pinot Noir from Johner Estate winery in the central Wairarapa. This is an outstanding wine with depth and richness providing a plush mid palate texture to this lively, lovely wine. Drink now or cellar for five to six years+.
