Palate: Generous and robust. Ripe black fruits and subtle oak balanced with supple tannins and beautifully balanced acidity.
About the winery...
Six generations have nurtured some of the most historic vineyards in Australia.
In 1839 William Formby arrived in Australia from the United Kingdom and it was in 1882, after four decades pioneering South Australia, he purchased the now historic Metala estate.
In 1891 William and his son, Arthur, planted 21 rows of Shiraz, and 14 rows of
what are now the oldest family-owned Cabernet Sauvignon vines in the world.
In 1894 a further 5.4 acres of Shiraz were planted. After almost five decades making Metala wine in a purpose-built winery on the estate, the winemaking was transferred to Arthur’s Brother-in-Law, at Stonyfell Cellars. The wines continued to be made here until management shifted to various holdings beginning with Dalgety Wine Estate in the early 1970’s.
In 1981, 5th Generation Guy Adams took over the management of the mixed farm estate. With a sincere appreciation and respect of viticulture and to family legacy, Guy, together with his wife Liz, began a 20-year long battle to return Metala to its original home. In 2022 the dream became a reality and Metala came home to Langhorne Creek and the family who planted and have nurtured the vines for more than 130 years.
Bouquet: Bright and vibrant with ripe fruits, primarily dark plums and blackcurrants, with a hint of raspberry coulis and coffee mocha oak.
Palate: Rich blackcurrant and raspberries. Crisp, clean acidity and delightful tannin structure leading to a lingering finish.

Unit price perThis is the latest release of our estate pinot noir and was made from mainly 18 year old vines (Clones 5, 6, Abel, 667, 115, 777). Bright ruby appearance, and a bouquet filled with scents of place then ripe red berry fruits and dark cherry. Soft notes of toasted cedar display the 11 months of barrel ageing. On the palate, a core of deep dark fruits is balanced with hints of fresh late summer berries. The intimate touch of winemaking is evident in the light vanilla oak notes, subtle body and the unassuming but long finish. Drinking well now but will develop in the cellar for 10 plus years.
“It's gorgeously ripe and enticing, the wine shows Black Doris plum, wild strawberry, rich floral, warm spice and toasted almond characters, followed by a wonderfully weighted palate displaying fleshy texture combined with beautifully melded tannins, finishing persistent and delectable. At its best: now to 2033.” 95 points 5 stars outstanding Sam Kim, Wine Orbit

Our Chardonnay comes from an old hillside vineyard in the Southern Valleys region of Marlborough, where clay based loess soils prevail. Larger old barrels have predominantly been used to naturally ferment the wine. Untouched and aged over 14 months, without anything more than a peek in the barrel from time to time, has enhanced the elegance of this wine. Poised, with a delicious mineral backbone this chardonnay has tension, and genorosity at the same time, with a whiff of that classic struck match note that cool climate chardonnay can produce so well.
Suitable for Vegans.

Unit price per“This wine is a time capsule for the last harvest of Riesling off its site and I was happy to capture its electricity in a bottle. There’s something about the way Waitaki tastes in Riesling that is pure magic! Limestone expressing itself in the form of crackling acidity and chalk, you can taste the shape of the soil through the wine, it becomes so physical. This place may be small but she is mighty and every part of the region has Riesling gold to mine and create what I believe is the best Riesling outside of Germany. The name “Amplitude” came to Ian when I was describing how I feel this magnetic pull every time I get close to the Waitaki, followed by this electric current running through me. The feeling is so similar to how the wines taste, it’s crazy. Ian works at the beautiful old Kurow Power Station and so “Amplitude” seemed fitting.” – Sierra Reed
Tasting Note: Jasmine, lime zest, oyster shell, grass, tinned pineapple, and chalkiness create the bones of the wine. Whilst a sharp line of acid brings tension and focus and the residual sugar creates the movement and shape. The interplay between acid, RS and phenolics is key in Riesling and there is a balance that must be achieved to weave them seamlessly so they move together with a oneness. The beauty of this wine is the purity it expressed from juice through to ferment, it’s crystalline.
Winemaking Notes: Foothill Groves Vineyard, growers Ian and Helen Dent. Wild yeast, 30 g/l residual sugar, TA 12.03. 700 litres total production.
Alcohol: 10.4%
Variety: Riesling
Region: Waitaki Valley, North Otago, New Zealand
