Unit price perThe baby brother of La Crau from Vieux Télégraphe, made using fruit from vines that are less than 30 yeas old and fruit from sites other than La Crau and Piedlong. This spends its first 10 month sin stainless steel before spending 7 months in small format oak. Ripe dark and red berry fruits are delivered in a wonderfully supple mouthful.
Stunning full bodied red blend from Spain, made from 70% Carignan and 30% Garnacha from 60 to 80 year old vines, which were planted on stony vineyard sites at high altitude. Grapes were destemmed and macerated for 15 days. The wine was aged for 13 months in new and one year old, low toast French oak barriques. It was bottled unfined and unfiltered.
The word Braó is Catalan for strength, courage and valour; three qualities this wine encapsulates beautifully.
Vegan friendly.
What the critics say
Josh Raynolds Vinous Media - 92 Points
"Deep, shimmering violet. Intense dark berry, cherry cola and floral pastille aromas are complicated by baking spice and smoky mineral flourishes. Sappy and energetic on the palate, offering bitter cherry and blackberry flavors that show spicy back-end lift. Smooth, well-knit tannins frame the persistent finish, which features lingering mineral and floral notes."

Unit price perA silky red with light spicy aromas and lovely depth of flavour with layers of red and dark fruit on the palate due to the inclusion of four different grapes in the blend of this wine. Three French grapes lead the way with Shiraz 56%, Grenache 17% and Cinsault 17%, all supported here by the dark deep flavours of Portugal's Tinta Barocca which contributes 10%.
A portion of foot stomping helps to extract colour and juice prior to fermentation.
Ageing is in older, larger 4000 litre oak for 16 months.
From the winery...
The 2014 AA Badenhorst is our ninth release of this appellation wine. The wine has the potential to age very gracefully for the next decade or so. The tannins are prominent and well integrated and refreshing as a number of the parcels were picked quite early. The aromas are more upfront than normal with complex notes of pepper, liquorice, perfume and black cherries. The palate entry is quite dense with lavender and dark berry fruit. The finish is dry with well spread tannins ending with savoury and currant flavours.

This wine is named after our maternal Grandfather, who helped Lorraine and Neil to start Elderton Wines. Gramps, as we called him, was a larger than life personality that always had an eye for a great opportunity. He loved fine wines, especially the big reds of the Barossa.
From our Greenock vineyard on the Western Ridge of the Barossa Valley, established by the Helbig family in 1915. This beautiful contoured block of Grenache was planted in 1969. Sandy loam over red clay with patches of ironstone throughout, the vines here are quite lean in terms of vigour and seem happy that we ask very little of them as we prune to low bud numbers. In recent years we have applied straw mulch under vine to keep the soil and rootzone cool, whilst providing beneficial nutrients to the soil as it decomposes over time.

Unit price perJohann's Garden is named as a tribute to the early Silesian community of the Barossa, many of whom carried the first name of Johann. Their toil, perseverance and conservatism in hardship has meant that the many generations that followed rejoiced in the riches of their prudent efforts. This blend is just one of those blessings. The traditions and culture have survived to this day. including the traditional winemaking techniques of open-top fermentation used in this Grenache blend. It is produced from low-yielding Barossa Survivor Vines, categorised by the Barossa Old Vine Charter as vines that are equal or greater than 70 years old. These gnarled, dry-grown bush and trellised vines are grown on limestone soils from selected vineyards in the Barossa Valley. Barossa growers traditionally referred to their vineyard as their garden, from the German weingarten.
Grenache and Mataro were vinified separately then matured in seasoned French oak hogsheads for 10 months prior to blending and bottling. Bright ruby with garnet hues. Perfumed aromas of freshly cut plum and rhubarb are complemented by delicate notes of violet and lavender, with alluring hints of fresh mace, nutmeg and white pepper. The palate is rich, juicy and plush, with fresh red berries, raspberry and vanilla spice flavours, carried by fresh acidity and a long, elegant finish of fine tannins.

Unit price perA pale rose made from the gentle, direct pressing of two pink skinned grapes, Grenache Gris, Clairette Rose and Carignan Gris. The grapes soak up the Languedoc’s sunshine until harvest, then the juice ferments spontaneously (including malolactic) and spends a few months on its fine lees before an unfiltered bottling. Bright and lively, with ample flesh and layers of texture.
