This is first Syrah from the Easthope home block where Rod and Emma Easthope live. It's a super tasty Syrah with flavours of roasted fresh espresso, floral notes and aniseed. It was made using 100% whole bunch fermentation and aged in puncheons, 20% new with 12 months on lees.

The grapes in this wine were grown on an inland elevated vineyard which is planted in a clone of Syrah known as the Bayley’s clone, selected from the Bayley’s Vineyard in Victoria and brought into New Zealand by Riversun in Gisborne.  

This beautifully fragrant Syrah is a dry, full bodied wine with notes of spice and complexity, offering very good value for money. It's made with grapes from the Gimblett Gravels Winegrowing District in Hawke’s Bay and displays blackberry, dark plum and toasted nut characters with subtle black pepper and floral aromas.

Hot, dry, long and reliable. And that's just the vintage conditions in Hawke's Bay in 2020. This wine is a beautiful expression of a warm vintage with a long summer. Flavours here include blackberry, spice and liquorice which combine to produce a fruit dominant but complex wine. A small inclusion of the white variety Viognier gives the wine beautiful perfume and allows the wine more accessibility while young.

Passage Rock Syrah is made from grapes sourced from Waiheke Island's oldest vines. It has a rich bouquet of black currant, dark plums, blackberry and peppery spices, with core fruit flavours that reflect the bouquet. The palate is textural and perfectly balanced. Dark and spicy, full bodied and complex. A wine to drink now and to keep. Giesen's Clayvin Syrah has aromas of blueberry, plum, cinnamon and nutmeg with aniseed notes leading into a powerful palate full of texture and concentration with a lingering savoury finish. Whole bunches make up a component of this wine, which add depth, weight, structure and spicy notes. 

Clayvin was the first hillside vineyard in Marlborough and is now certified organic and is home to a small number of Syrah vines. 

Craggy Range chief winemaker Julian Grounds uses an old heritage clone of Syrah to make this full bodied, deeply coloured red with its spicy flavours and fresh fruit forward style. Syrah is the second most planted red grape in Hawke’s Bay after Merlot and 70% of the grapes in this wine were hand harvested, 18% whole bunch fermented with the remaining 82% destemmed. They were all fermented with indigenous yeasts and the wine was aged in French oak, 25% new, for 14 months. 

The result is one of our best value and best tasting local Syrahs under $30. An extraordinary wine for the price.
