2022 ANGEL FLOWER PINOT NOIR
Season summary
Under the influence of La Nina, the vines had good growth and good flowering conditions which resulted in solid yields. 200mm in February had us on edge, but diligent viticulture and a dry March and April allowed us to hang the fruit out till the end of April and achieve optimum ripeness. The resulting wines are an elegant expression of our Waikari farm. 

Tasting note
Light garnet hue. With a beautifully expressive nose of rose petals and dried herbs, the complexity leaps out of the glass. Silky texture, with crushed red fruits and with a velvet mineral acidity. Fine tannins support this elegantly floral and savoury expression of Angel Flower in 2022. Great length, subtle flavours that linger long. A elegant wine that has understated power.

Viticulture
Planted between 2000-2002 at 11,111 vines/ha and farmed biodynamically from inception. A beautiful, very steep, north-facing block. Coarse, shallow soils that enhance the aromatics; 15% clay, 5-10% active lime. Harvest dates: 20 April 2022

Winemaking
Carefully hand sorted, fully destemmed and fermented with wild yeasts using infusion methods for 21-27 days. Settled in tank before being transferred to French wooden barrels. Elevage of 18 months, then bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Plaid 2 The Cone is a thoroughly good India Pale Ale made with US hops, with a nose like a big bouquet of citrus & melon, a dry lingering flintiness, assertively bitter hoppiness, and subtle sweetness.

Tasting Note: Gensen means 'specially selected' and Karakichi means 'dry'. It is an every day drinking style of sake. It is quite fruity on the nose. The palate has tight structure with hints of citrus and a savory aspect, finishing long and dry. When chilled, anything light and delicate such as sashimi, sushi and salsad. When warm, chawanamushi, oden hot pot.

Wow we don't see a lot of Semillon from Argentina but it is actually one of Argentina's oldest planted varieties. This rare barrel-fermented expression is harvested from 80 year-old vines and has fresh, clean citrus aromas with a hint of oak. Flavours of citrus, tropical fruit, coconut and caramel follow through on the palate

Tasting Notes: ?Mawson Chardonnay is energetic and refined with aromas of fresh citrus, lime zest, yellow apple, white blossom, freshly baked bread, and white stones. The palate has incredible fruit purity with a linear flow and exquisite freshness. A unique wine best enjoyed with a special meal and great company over the next 13+ years.? ? Jen Parr

Winemaking Notes: Harvested on 4th April 2023, from B95 and Mendoza clone Chardonnay vines planted in 2007, aged in barrel for 9 months. 100% whole bunch, 210 dozen total production. Valli?s first Central Otago Chardonnay is a wine of great purity and focus. Premium grapes came from the Highgrange Vineyard, an elevated site on Mt. Pisa. The 5th vintage of our canine charity series celebrates the accomplishments of Mawson, a Stewart Island/Rakiura predator detection dog. We will proudly donate proceeds of this wine to SIRCET, the Stewart Island/Rakiura Community and Environment Trust to help fund bi-annual Kiwi Avoidance Training to help protect our native flightless birds along with other initiatives for the benefit of NZ?s third island.

Passion Smash is a Hazy IPA brewed with German Pilsner, Wheat and Maris Otter malts, Golden Oats and Big 'O' Malted Oats, Frothtech Vape Yeast and dry hopped with Citra, Mosaic, Strata and Freestyle Hops 'Kohia Nelson' a Nelson Sauvin and passionfruit botanical blend.

The vineyards of Domaine du Vieux Lazaret are spread over 93 hectares, split into 35 different parcels of vines throughout A.O.C. Châteauuneuf-du-Pape. It is today among the largest domaines in Châteauuneuf and is owned by the Quiot family.

The Cuvee Exceptionelle is 60% Grenache, 40% Syrah and is juicy abd fruit forward with a decent smattering of new oak providing a palate that is all about dark berry fruits and vanilla. 2015 was a very decent vintage in the Southern Rhone ,and, although drinking now - will do well with time in the cellar.

A rich and complete Premier Cru Pinot Noir from Volnay in Burgundy. Clos de la Barre is a Monopole (i.e. exclusively owned by Jadot). Grown in a real clos that is surrounded by high stone walls, it produces a more assertive wine than other Volnays, with ethereal spice and mineral tannins detailed amongst slightly richer, riper fruit. With serious character, this powerful and structured wine is built to improve with age. This is a superb offering from Louis Jadot.
