As a 4 year old, little wood is evident in its flavour. Instead it shows its cereal roots and a foxy quality from its wild yeast strain. This gives Jim Beam White a uniqueflavour not apparent in other Beam products. The colour is a nice, balanced amber, more red than orange. The nose is slightly perfumy. A unique parcel within Rippon, Emma’s Block faces eastward on the lakefront where ancient clay reefs run laterally through fine schist gravels. Emma’s Block is named after the great-great-great grandmother of the current generation of the Mills family, through whom the name entered into the family.

The grapefruit was not discovered until the 18th century and botanists believe it is the result of crossbreeding sweet oranges of Barbados with the pomelo, a citrus fruit native to Indonesia. The British knew that not only was this new fruit delicious, it was very good for you too, with sailors and explorers favouring it over lime and lemons due to its natural higher vitamin C content.

Enter Harry Craddock, who was known in the 1930s for his fantastic cocktails at iconic London destinations, The Savoy and The Dorchester Hotel. In his journals and recipes he often spoke of using the ?forbidden fruit? and his secrets remained somewhat shrouded in mystery until recent years. Inspired by Craddock, East Imperial have taken the South East Asian Pomelo, which delivers a deep rich orange note and carefully blended this with Ruby Red Grapefruit, resulting in a tonic which delivers the ultimate citrus balance.

TASTING NOTES:

Round and lavish initial palate, packed with pomelo and citrus oil. Finishes with a generous hit of ruby red grapefruit zest.

An opaque dark brown beer with a creamy off white head that dissipated quite quickly providing fair lacing. Rich malty aromas of dark fruits (cherries, plums), banana, toffee and dark chocolate. The palate is thickish and fruity finishing with a gentle spicy hop presence and a soothing alcoholic warmth. The finish reminds me of an after dinner port wine. There is definitely candy sugar in there but it is not too sweet and the flavours are wonderfully integrated. Top class. Definitely one to sip and savour.

Beautiful layered flavours superbly balanced. There’s dark fruit in the forefront (prunes, cherries), and bright, slightly bitter notes in the back (orange peel, hints of clove and coriander seed) Great mouthfeel. It’s syrupy, but not overly sweet. This is an almost perfect quad, quite probably my favourite.

It is a blending of Calvados aged a minimum of 15 years. In fact, it contains percentages of older Calvados that gives it all its nobleness.

It lets in the mouth a subtle taste of apple that gradually gives way to the refined alliances of the tannin of old Calvados. It is perfect harmony between the apple and the wood, with underlying aromas. The Calvados of all the nice moments.
