The Legend of The Wild One is a complex and rich story, much like the beer that bears its name. Brewed with wild yeast, this sour brown ale is aged in wooden wine foeders for up to eight months, giving it distinct tart and fragrant flavors, with aromas of ripe cherry, apple and a bit of funk.

Two Bites, oak barrel aged beer, fermented with our own house culture and then ‘double dipped’ with Boysenberries and Blueberries for a rich colour, deep, soft fruit flavour and bright berry aroma. Go on, have another bite.

The Long Run is made with our newest pal Dan at Mount Holly Beer in Vermont, USA. After meeting at NZ hop harvest and geeking out over NZ hops, brewing process, and the importance of water, Dan decided to fly home via Sydney and help us replicate something as close to the rolling green hills of Vermont as we can get. With a huge focus on water, we’ve done our best to replicate the soft, cloud-like aqua of the North East using our in-house RO water system, along with a metric bucket load of fresh NZ hop cones to complement this big, juicy, hop-to-face-smacking lupulin monster. Its different, in a freedom kind of way.

Smooth, complex, and beautifully balanced, our Flemish Bruin pours a deep mahogany with ruby highlights, crowned by a wispy, off-white head. On the nose, it opens with inviting aromas of dark cherries, dates, and a hint of balsamic, intertwined with gentle oak and a complex earthiness. The malt base boasts notes of caramel and toffee, quickly met by a bright, tangy acidity that adds lift and vibrancy. A hint of oak lingers in the background thanks to nearly 24 moths of careful maturation. The finish is dry, slightly tart, and refreshingly clean, leaving you ready for another sip.

7.7% - Fruited Spontaneous Ferment Ale

Kyle Harrop from legendary Horus Aged Ales, squeezed in this collaboration (and a few rounds of disc golf with Dave) during a flying visit to New Zealand. Specially selected puncheon aged spontaneous beer, infused with organic Sultan, Satsuma and Billington plums picked on Roy Sunde's ‘Orchard’ disc golf course in Oratia. Tart, aromatic, colourful and utterly delightful. It’s an ace.

Terroir Blend 2021

Terroir Blend is based on the Megablend from Belgium. It is the expression of one year old spontaneously fermented 'Lambic style' beer from multiple breweries. We are excited that there are quite a few other brewers in NZ now brewing spontaneously fermented beers.
This blend is a 'Gueuze-style' blending of a barrel each of Ninebarnyardowls 2- and 3- year-old and two barrels of our 1-year-old.

Food pairing: sliced apples. Mussels, waterzooi, Thai green curry, strong goat’s cheese, fish, bread and butter.

8.8% - Cherry Infused Spontaneous Blend

An artful blend of 2 and 4 year old 100% spontaneously fermented beer, aged in oak then refermented on Montmorency cherries from sunny Oamaru. The result is a stunningly colourful, beautifully balanced, aromatic beer with delightful tart cherry notes and a superbly dry finish. The result of a lot of hard work, and a little chance, luck and magic.

The Rodenbach Fruitage 0.0% is a fruit beer with 100% natural ingredients, without alcohol! This non-alcoholic beer offers the rich taste of red fruit, fresh sour and slightly sweet.

CHERIMOYA & SAGE BLENDED SOUR ALE

ABV 6.0%

Occasionally we can get our hands on some of this magical fruit. Grown in Northland, cherimoya - also known as the custard apple - has a soft, sweet aroma and delicious creamy pear like texture. We added them to a mixed-culture saison base for six months then removed the fruit and added fresh sage leaves for a few more months. This was then blended with a barrel-aged Hefeweizen for a truly unique and special brew. Aromas of sage and clove with notes of lemon and fruit-driven funk dominate with a palate both clean and bright over tart lemon zest-laden sourness and a dry finish. With so many layers of complexity, this beer will age well for 4-6 years.

Timmermans Lambicus Blanche is a traditional lambic, and as Belgian White beers, spiced with coriander. It’s a refreshing beer with flavours of wheat, citrus and spicy notes.

Lindemans Gueuze Cuvée René is this blend of old and young lambic matured in large oak barrels. It is then bottled in a beautiful champagne bottle, where another form of fermentation takes place. After 6 months, gueuze takes on a golden color and becomes a slightly carbonated and acidic beer. But because it is then stored in a cellar for a few years, it becomes really unusual. Gueuze Cuvée René is one of the jewels of Lindema's brewery. With its golden color and its beautiful sherry aromas, this is the queen of gueuzes.
