From the long established Saura Brewery of the Miyagi prefecture comes this bottle of wonderful honjozo sake. 

Using specially cultivated yeast in the fermentation process, Saura Brewery ensures that their sake has a taste and fragrance that will continue to please. This fruity and smooth rice wine has a medium body, making it highly versatile when pairing with food. Best enjoyed chilled or warmed just above room temperature.

Food friendly, and complements a variety of dishes. Served slightly chilled, at room temperature or slightly warmed to enjoy the best expression of a layered sake.

Ginjo sake with a rice polishing rate greater than or equal to 60% has a richer palate and have more floral aromas than a Honjozo.

Ingredients: Rice and koji from Japanese rice growing.

Nigori-Sake is only lightly filtered and has a milky colour and texture. It's generally the sweetest of all kinds of Sake, with a fruity nose and a mild flavour. 

This japanese unfilted (Cloudy) sake. made purely with rice and koji, this subtly sweet and smooth junmai nigori sake is a velvety delight.

Before serving, the bottle should be shaken to obtain the full range of flavour and it is advised to be served well-chilled.

Vinification: Grape selection is done at the vineyard, then cold maceration of the whole grape cluster. Pressed and fermented at low temperatures in stainless steel tanks. Stabilized for some months in vats until it’s bottled in June.

Nose: Fresh, vivid, bright, with notes of exotic tropical fruits, mango and quince.

Taste: A pleasant and long finish with beautiful minerality. Lovely purity of fruit. Finishes with floral notes and spice.

Color: Very bright straw yellow with greenish gleams.

Gastronomy: Perfect with salty fish, such as sardines, or mackerel.

Eira dos Mouros is Galician language. Eira translates to Medicine woman or Chaman, which are still present in every town in Galicia. These Chamans resembled nature doctors. Mouros translates to little walls for wine terraces. These words combined, Eira Dos Mouros, translates to “The Medicine woman of the walled terraced vineyard.”

The Producer

Casal de Armán was founded in the late 1990's by the González family, who had been making Ribeiro wines since 19th century. The property is an 18th century court, located in San Andres, Ribadavia Ourense in Northwest Spain, Galicia. 

Casal de Armán covers almost 50 acres of vineyards loacted within the Ribeiro de Avia region. The Avia's river banks support the winery's terraces ranging from 650 feet above sea level to almost 1,200 feet above sea level. The vienyards are dedicated to cultivating indigenous varitals such as white treixadura, Godelli, loureira, Brenecellao, Caiño and Sousón. The grapes are handpicked and 100% of their wines are estate wines. Felicísimo Pereira, the new Ribeiro Appellation's president, is the winemaker at Casal de Armán.

This wine comes from the Piana Rotaliano area in the Adige Valley, tucked between the Dolomites. Despite numerous attempts to acclimatise it in other regions, Teroldego remains deeply bound to its mountains and the unique environment of the Piana Rotaliana. Think Cru Beaujolais in terms of style, with plenty of fruit but enough structure and complexity to back it up. This is a fruit forward wine with complexity, length and structure. Biodynamic and organic.

A delicious dry and savoury Chenin Blanc with crisp apply acidity and a full body, showing off the fleshy citrus and stone fruit flavours in this wine, which comes from South Africa - the world's headquarters of Chenin Blanc, in terms of volume of grapes planted. 

Chenin Blanc is the leading grape variety in South Africa and is made in a wide range of styles. This is one of the best and was made by A A Badenhorst in South Africa's Swartland region, where Chenin grows superbly well. With a smattering of Palomino, the grape typically used for sherry, this wine is deliciously dry and savoury with crisp apply acidity and a full body, showing off fleshy citrus and stone fruit flavours.

Indeed, not so long ago, if we’d said that we wanted to make high quality, low intervention wines made from Mediterranean varieties in the Riverland, Cloud Cuckoo land is exactly where people would have said that we lived! Although famed for its red wines, white wines have a long heritage in the southern Rhône valley, where the locals enjoy an occasional glass at the start of a warm evening. La Fleur Solitaire is a solitaire amongst the rubies of our Boutinot Rhône range; a white Côtes du Rhône made from traditional southern Rhône white grape varieties.

Production

Following an experiment with a micro cuvée crafted from seven barrels back in 2009, we now source grapes from selected vineyards in the southern Rhône. Each parcel is picked separately in the cooler early daylight hours for gentle pressing that same morning, and each is fermented at a low temperature. To a base of Grenache Blanc, we blend Viognier along with co-fermented pairs of Roussanne/Marsanne and Bourboulenc/Clairette. Over the years we have increased the proportion vinified in stainless steel, with just under a third of the wine now vinified and matured for 6 months French oak barrels (mostly 3rd fill but some new) to add complexity and creaminess.

Tasting notes

Proper white Côtes du Rhône; fresh, medium-bodied, vinous. The nose is pretty and delicate, with a waft of fennel tops and hints of hedgerow flowers. The flavours are nuanced and refined rather than overt. Careful use of oak adds texture and structure without masking the freshness of this very drinkable white.

Food match

A lovely apéritif, and delicious with lighter dishes such as grilled asparagus drizzled with olive oil and toasted almonds or a goats cheese salad. Fish and chicken are a perfect partner; especially grilled halibut or cod, or a creamy chicken dishes such as the French Poulet à l’Estragon (chicken in a tarragon sauce).

Soju is a clear colourless distilled spirit native to Korea, made from rice, potatoes, sweet potatoes or tapioca. It offers a lightly sweet, crisp and clean taste with a cool finish. Its special advantages are a lower calorie profile and a lower proof alcohol content. Soju delivers only about half the calories of ordinary vodka while delivering incomparable superior rich taste. As the leader in medium-level alcohol content spirits, soju can be enjoyed straight or it can lend itself as a perfect cocktail ingredient.

Pale, dry pink wines are all the rage right now from all over the world, and this Portuguese example is made from more than 10 different indigenous Portuguese and international grape varieties, including Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Touriga Nacional. Together these grapes provide complex red berry aromas with savoury notes of herbs and fresh lees influence from light aging prior to release. 

A great match with all seafood.

Extremely fresh wine, with red fruit notes, such as raspberries and strawberries. In the palate, it is light, flavourful, full of fruity notes well combined with an agreeable freshness, and a very pleasant aftertaste.

This powerful and warm wine comes from a selection of exceptional terroirs. The vineyards used in this Gigondas red are located on the arid hills of the Dentelles de Montmirail. The mistral blows regularly on these slopes, assisting even growth and excellent fruit quality. This terroir produces a wine capable of ageing for at least ten years.

The wine is an intense garnet colour. The nose offers notes of liquorice, red fruit with brandy, garrigue and pepper. The palate is rich and concentrated, with notes of red fruit and dried herbs.

Ambrosius by name and by nature, this beautiful expression of Saint Emilion Grand Cru is a dry, impressive blend of 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc. Grapes were grown on sandy soil and sandstone on one vineyard and this wine represents exceptional value for money, both for drinking now and for cellaring. Expect a commanding southern French red now; expect great complexity within four or five years of bottle age.
