This bold and beautiful McLaren Vale Shiraz puts the region's best foot forward - and the grape's most vibrant, peppery flavours forward too, in the glass. It's named after winery owner Frank Mitolo's three children, Gemma, Alex and Marco and is a deliciouly dark and spicy red with deep earthy notes. 

The wine is made from vineyards at the south end of McLaren Vale, which provides ripe but balanced dark flavours of powerful black cherries, black plums and strong notes of cinnamon, nutmeg and spice. Winemaker Ben Glaetzer says he picks grapes on flavour ripeness to make wines with mature tannins and vibrant fruit both being key characteristics of Mitolo wines. 

He describes GAM Shiraz as opulent, robust and multi layered; an ideal match for rustic foods.

It comes from the Lopresti vineyard, which is about three kilometres east of the coastal town of Port Willunga.

Winemaker Ben Glaetzer describes this wine as: "Full bodied and dense, the palate provides layers of ripe black fruits that open up endlessly. Firm, ripe tannins amply support the rich and opulent black fruit characters with the earthy background notes contributing further complexity. It is an ample and very classic expression of McLaren Vale Shiraz."

Commercial description

Churchill’s was founded in 1981 by winemaker Johnny Graham, whose family has been making wine in the Douro for six  generations. We were the first port shipper to be started-up in over half a century and are now the last independent British port house. Churchill´s ports are unique for their signature dry, fresh style. We produce all our ports from grade A grapes that are  hand-picked, foot crushed and naturally fermented for finest  quality wines with minimal intervention.  

VIBRANT - ORANGE BLOSSOM – SMOOTH 

Our iconic Dry White Port’s distinctive golden colour and smooth nutty f lavours are the result of skin fermentation followed by a careful ageing  process. With aromas of grated nutmeg and eucalyptus, this port is fresh and complex, showing hints of orange peel. SOURCING  Specially selected from higher altitude Grade-A vineyards. 

TASTING NOTES

WINEMAKING NOTES  Grapes are cold stored overnight at 10ºC before being crushed with stalks (100%) in the granite lagares at Quinta da Gricha. Light maceration by foot treading and fermentation on the skins. After fermentation, the wine goes through an ageing period in seasoned oak casks for approximately 10 years. 

CELLARING Filtered and ready for immediate drinking so does not require bottle ageing.   SERVING Best enjoyed within 2 years of bottling. Serve chilled (8º-10ºC)

Txakoli, pronounced cha-coal-ee is a lightly sparkling, dry white wine from the north of Spain, made to drink while it's young (typically within a year of bottling). Its high acidity  and low alcohol make it taste clean, fresh and zingy. It's made from the rare Hondarrabi Zerratia grape, which is a relative of the French white grape, Petit Manseng, which is found not too far north of here in southern France. 

This is a dreamy, spicy and smooth Spanish Tempranillo from Bideona, a winery founded in 2018 in Rioja Alavesa. This is one of our best sellers and is made from impressively old vines, many of which were planted in the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s and the result of the viticulture is incredible concentration

The wine was aged in an adventurously modern combination of French and American oak barrels, all older oak, for five months. 

The name Laderas means hills and refers to the sloping vineyards from which this smooth, softly fruited, deep red wine comes. Bodega Badiola owns 300 parcels of land on the slopes of Sierra Cantabria, in the villages of Villabuena de Alava, Leza, Samaniego, Laguardia, Navaridas and Baños del Ebro. 

The average vine age of is about 50 years and the vines are trained en vaso, referring to the sturdy bush vines, grown without trellising on limestone soils. All grapes are hand picked and the wine is aged in a combination of French and American oak barrels of second and third use, for five months. 

Two Paddocks Pinot Noir is actor and winemaker Sam Neill's introduction red to his range of wines from Central Otago. It's made from hand harvested grapes which are fermented and matured in French oak barriques. It is 100% certified organic, which reflects the Central Otago wine region's pre-eminence as New Zealand's leading organic wine region - 16% of the region's vines are certified organic with another 7% in the conversion process, which means that by 2023, 23 % of the vines will be certified.

Iconic Martinborough Sauvignon Blanc with vibrant fresh acidity, balanced by ripe notes of tropical and citrus zest. This wine contains 3.3 grams of residual sugar which adds textural appeal and retains a dry fresh taste. Dry wines contain less than 5 grams per litre.

Tasting Note
Aromas of honeysuckle, citrus zest and fresh strawberries from the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir fruit. Extended time on lees during secondary fermentation contributes to more complex aromas of nougat and roasted nuts. The palate is balanced with delicate fruit flavour, fine creamy texture and refreshing natural acidity.

Winemaking
Handpicking, gentle whole bunch pressing, cool fermentation, 100% malolactic fermentation, complex assemblage and extended ageing on lees after bottle fermentation, all combine to produce a stylish and complex wine.

A perfect match with natural oysters drizzled with any of our cuvées (instead of lemon) or fritto misto with lemon aioli.

Yalumba Paradox Shiraz is made from grapes grown in a vineyard on the Barossa Valley floor which is known for its hot climate and bold wines, but this one fits the bill of beautiful elegance and structure as well as of powerful dark fruit flavours. Its intense tannins are beautifully balanced by refreshing acidity, lithe texture and it ticks the vegan friendly box.

Tornatore’s Etna Bianco is a white wine made from vines terraced on the north slope of the volcano. Mentholated hints of white fruit and citrus on the nose, from the background of herbs. The palate is pleasantly savoury, mineral, with juicy freshness and pleasant aromatic returns.

Organoleptic Characteristics
Pale straw yellow with intense greenish reflections on the eye; pleasant hints of green apple, grapefruit, white peach and aromatic herbs mark the nose of this wine, which shows its true identity on the palate with a very pleasant savoriness and freshness complemented by an extraordinary minerality; exclusive notes that invite the second glass.

Vinification
Grapes harvested by hand in small crates are brought quickly to the winery and undergo manual selection on a belt. De-stemmed and lightly crushed they arrive at the press where they are softly pressed. The resulting must is cold clarified and placed to ferment at a temperature of 15/16°C. Once fermentation is finished, the resulting wine rests on the fine lees for about three months.

Corbieres is a large appellation in the Languedoc in the south of France and is best known for its deep, dark, full bodied reds, like this wine, made from Grenache and Syrah. The region's warm climate and variety of soils mean that wines from Corbieres tend to gain a complex range of flavours from fruity to earthy and spicy. This wine delivers big time on flavour and is great value for money.

Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the key grapes in the south of France and this one comes from two areas; the Cévennes and the Aude Valley. It's full bodied, dry and has smooth fruit forward flavours balanced by Cabernet's famous structured tannins, which add complexity and grip to the finish. We think this wine rocks great value for money - and tastes approachable right now.
