Wild berries and ripe plums combine with complex spicy notes in this super affordable Malbec from the Pays D'Oc in the south of France. Malbec is scarce in the Languedoc region and this wine is made from 30 year old vines, which come from four different vineyards. The vineyards are on the slopes of the Orb Valley for complexity and richness, the foot of Montagne d’Alaric, northern Corbières, lends roundness and complexity and central Corbières for complexity and spice.

Cabernet Franc is one of the hottest red grapes on Earth right now. Structured, ripe, dark fruit flavours with layers of ripe plum, blackberries and spice make this wine a beautiful drink now as well as for ageing. It comes from a plateau across the border of southwestern Slovenia and northeastern Italy where the soils are rich in iron and limestone and provide superb ripening conditions to grapes grown there, with the added benefit of the ocean influence. 

Fermentation in French and American oak is followed by ageing for a year in larger Slavonian and French oak. This stunning wine drinks well now and has a long life ahead, provided it is cellared well.  

Commercial description

Cote-Rotie "La Turque" is one of the flagship of the Domaine Guigal. A powerful wine with spicy notes, its terroirs from the Cote Brune with “blond accents” lends it a great elegance.

Commercial description

The Côte-Rôtie « La Mouline » is one of the most emblematic of the Guigal domain’s wines. Small quantities are produced each year from a vineyard in the heart of the ‘Côte Blonde’. This is a voluptuous, silky and intensely aromatic wine.

Chardonnay is one of the unsung heroes of Marlborough but also a wine that can divide the room! Jules’ take on this variety is a far cry from the big buttery Chardonnay-bombs from the 1990s. Instead Jules prefers a wine with delicate freshness and attractive fruit flavours that express the vineyards in which they were grown. With only 10% new oak and a partial malolactic ferment, this elegant wine that will convert even the most die-hard chardonnay-basher!

The Wrekin Vineyard lies within its own small valley located on the north facing slopes of the larger Fairhall Valley. It is also a part of the sub-region of Marlborough known as the Southern Valleys. Jan and Andrew along with their family began planting on the north facing slopes of these foothills in 2002 with Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and later Chenin Blanc. 

This is one of the highest vineyards in the valley. Its ancient clay soils overlying greywacke parent rock are significantly different from the loess soils occurring in the lower areas. The elevation, rolling hillside and orientation of the vineyard blocks, which were established on undisturbed soils, also contribute to the unique terroir of this site. 30 hectares of rolling slopes now form The Wrekin vineyard, certified BioGro organic and biodynamically farmed.

This wine is influenced by the beautiful intensely flavored bunches selected from the three major aspects of the Wrekin Chenin Blanc block (morning, mid-day and afternoon sun exposure), and most importantly the dedicated farming of this beautiful vineyard.

25% whole bunches foot stomped in vineyard, left to soak on skins and stems for 10 hours. Poured over remaining 75% whole bunches for pressing: the heads and tails of pressing to stainless steel(60%) for primary fermentation, the hearts to old neutral puncheon for primary fermentation to complement and enhance phenolics. Full MLF, left on fine lees for 18 months, before bottling without fining or filtration, 70mg/ total sulphites, vegan friendly.

Expect a commanding southern French red now; expect great complexity within four or five years of bottle age.
