One of our favourite under $25 Pinot Noirs in store with its medium body and beautiful ripe red fruit aromas, earthy depth of flavour and impressive tannic structure thanks to Martinborough's dry, windy climate. This wine is good value and a clean, fresh style of Pinot.Luna Estate makes three Pinot Noirs, two single vineyards called Eclipse and Luna and this lovely refreshing estate blend.
Rose needs no introduction but Pinot Meunier might do. As its name implies, this grape is part of the Pinot family and in this case it comes from the Blue Rock Vineyard, south of Martinborough township.
This wine is dry, medium bodied and fresh with red fruit flavours. Good drinking year round. Serve lightly chilled.
Luna Estate is a relative newcomer on the Martinborough wine block and not only produces three top notch reds from the region's most planted grape variety, Pinot Noir, but also a range of exceptionally tasty dry whites, such as this Sauvignon Blanc.
It's made from a blend of grapes grown on the winery's two different vineyards; the Eclipse site on Puruatanga Road and the Blue Rock Vineyard south of the township.
This is dry, light bodied, crisp and fresh with intense flavours of tropical fruit underpinned by refreshing green herb notes. A great wine to drink with fresh seafood.

Hillside frost-free site planted over limestone and clay. The oldest Pinot Noir block was planted in 1986 and is still on its own roots, Able clone. Distinct from the Eclipse vineyard because of vastly different geology with the clays that deliver rich, velvety texture. This is perhaps a more approachable wine than Eclipse, but still with elegance and underlying power.
Appearance – Dark ruby, youthful
Bouquet – Immediately pretty and floral, lifted red fruits combine with fine oak and earth/spice aromas. Very complex and seductive.
Palate – Power with elegance. Palate is packed with layers of fruit and spice. Super fine tannins flow alongside balanced acidity delivering long richly textured finish.

Luna winemaker Joel Watson is a devoted fan of Martinborough Syrah but is also candid about how tricky it can be to grow in this dry North Island wine region. His latest is a great example of cool climate Syrah with spicy black pepper aromas leading into a velvet smooth, highly structured wine with a full body and lingering finish thanks to its refreshing acidity.
The Luna Syrah is made from grapes grown on the winery's Blue Rock Vineyard, which was planted south of Martinborough township in 1997 on a steep north facing slope. The sun shines all day here, providing evening ripening conditions for this late ripening grape variety but the wind also brings its influence to bear, making high crops a marginal prospect in this relatively cool climate.
This is a stunning wine with huge complexity of clove and peppery spice coupled with dark chocolate and black fruit flavours. What's not to love in this wine.
