Pale Ale’s distinct hoppy flavour comes from a judicious blend of four local hop varieties, and the two selected malts contribute to its appealing colour. Its clean, fresh eagerness is tempered by a subtle sweetness and rounded off with a satisfying, lasting finish. A youthful member of the larger, wide-ranging family of pale ales, this is one of our most-popular beers.

Taieri George is named after the most important Emerson of all – Richard’s Dad. Not only was he a founding member of the Taieri Gorge Railway, he was also the brewery’s original Chief Beer Taster. He particularly enjoyed this drop, brewed with cinnamon, nutmeg and Otago clover honey. In his memory, we release this brew on his birthday. Here’s to you, George.

Grisette is a blond ale, related to the farmhouse ales of Hainaut in Francophone Wallonia. This beer style was cherished by thirsty Belgian miners, after a hard days work below ground. The grain bill comprises barley malt, raw wheat and oats with moderate hopping from New Zealand grown noble hops. The classic Ardennes yeast melds the drink into a perfect refresher after a hard day's work, the lower ABV in this version beckons a second glass. Sante!

Whale Played Red IPA is a West-coast-style pale ale with a rich juicy mouthfeel and delicious flavours and aromas of stone fruit, melons and resin.

Gallus is our rich, full-bodied Scotch Ale, deep mahogany in the glass and seriously malt-driven. Layers of caramelised toffee, dark sugar and toasted bread unfold first, followed by warming notes of raisin, treacle and a whisper of smoke. A beer with backbone and just enough swagger to carry the name.
