A great Syrah with black plum, blackberry and ripe red cherry notes from French winemaker Jean-Baptiste Souillard. 

This spicy full bodied red is new in store and offers great drinking now as well as ageing potential for up to a decade, potentially beyond. 

Fiano's established home is Campania in Southwest Italy, where great examples
are revered for style somewhere between a stunning Chardonnay and a dry
Riesling. Compared to other grapes, it is low-yielding and thus often overlooked by
commercial wineries. However it is well worth the work, showing delicate floral and
spice aromas that mellow and honey over time, giving way to great texture and impressive acidity.

This noble variety seems to have found its home at the stunning Howell Family vineyard, off Maraekakaho Road in Bridge Pa – one of a handful of Fiano plantings in New Zealand.
White floral, stonefruit, lemon zest and hint of brioche on the nose. On the palate these flavours merge with a touch of marmalade and cedar. A rich, textured, ripe wine with a zesty fresh finish. 900 bottle made.

100% Malbec grown on shallow, alluvial, loam and clay-loam soils on sites that are over a 1000 metres above sea level in Lujan de Cuyo in Mendoza, Argentina. 

This is all about juicy Argentine Malbec fruit that we all love so much and seems a given from this part of the world. Handpicked grapes are macerated for 10-15 days and then fermented cool prior to ageing in stainless steel and 15% French oak barriques for eight months.

Yuzu, found during the cooler months in Northern Asia, particularly Japan, is an aromatic sweet citrus fruit with distinct zesty flavor, often described as a hybrid between a mandarin and a Meyer lemon.

Introduced to South East Asia at the turn of the last century, it brought a unique and exceptional citrus brightness and was soon embraced by the more discerning cocktail drinker. Based on our 1903 recipe, Yuzu Tonic is the perfect way to bring a touch of the exotic to any mixed drink.

TASTING NOTES:

Robust citrus bomb upfront with the yuzu zest playing hero alongside the bitterness of quinine. The finish is somewhat sherbet with a moorish floral and sweet note.

generously hopped Pilsner takes the Bohemian style of aromatic lager and reforms it with a generous dose of Nelson grown hops. Citrus, spice and tropical fruit float over a sweet malt base before a firm bitter finale. A revelation of Kiwi ingenuity

Fromm Vineyard Syrah is grown solely at Fromm’s Home Vineyard in the Wairau Valley, which is certified organic with BioGro NZ. 

This is an intensely flavoursome Syrah with dark, delicious black fruit flavours and complex earthy notes of cedar, toasted spice and notes of oak. Winemaker Hatsch Kalberer blends three per cent of the white grape, Viognier, into this full bodied wine, to add depth and fleshy appeal. He suggests this wine has at least five years’ of aging potential up its sleeve so it can be enjoyed now and cellared. Buy two bottles to do both. 

Trademark wines are only made in a good vintage, with fairly small print runs.  They're drinkers and keepers.  Made from 100% Hawke's Bay gold.

Ripe fruit from three of our Trademark Syrah vineyards planted on limestone hillsides and an old riverbed. It shows admirable ripeness and depth of flavour, retaining vibrancy and great complexity on the nose and palate with typical violet, spice, black cherry and subtle white pepper notes. Supple chalky tannins provide a structure that promise time in bottle will be rewarded.

Behind the walls of several Belgian monasteries there exists a tradition of making strong, dark, rich, fruity beers packed with the flavours and aromas of dark sugar and dried fruit. The strongest of these are often referred to as quadrupels. Our anniversary beer, Cuvée de Moor, takes the dried fruit one stage further and includes a range of Moroccan fruit and dark sugars in the kettle before resting for a year in bretted pinot noir barrels. Yalumba is a family owned and fiercely independent wine producer with roots back to 1849. This is their take on the classic Australian blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz.

The Cabernet Sauvignon was sourced from four vineyards in the Barossa Valley. The diversity of the vineyard selection provides the rich, lifted Cabernet Sauvignon aromatics and palate structure for which The Signature is renowned. The Shiraz comes from vineyards of varying age, with the oldest planted in 1925. These blocks are of sandy loam, featuring yellow sand and ochre clay over red clay. The combination of these Barossa Valley blocks provides a Shiraz with sweetness, fullness, depth and layers of complexity.

Matured for 19 months in 25% new French barriques and Hungarian hogsheads, balance in older French and Hungarian barriques and hogsheads.

Deep, dense purple-red in colour. Seductive and alluring florals, cool mints, red pomegranate with fine blackberry fruits and dark cherry aromas. The palate is delightfully generous with dark red cherry fruit that merges into ironstone tannins. A medium to full bodied wine with a long, flowing tannin profile. Iconic Martinborough Sauvignon Blanc with vibrant fresh acidity, balanced by ripe notes of tropical and citrus zest. This wine contains 3.3 grams of residual sugar which adds textural appeal and retains a dry fresh taste. Dry wines contain less than 5 grams per litre.

Palliser Estate's Sauvignon Blanc has a long track record of being one of New Zealand's best. A wine that balances appealing ripe tropical fruit flavours with zesty notes of citrus, green herbs and ripeness that provides great structure to this wine.

Grenache was first planted by Villa Maria in 1996 on a small patch of ground on the Ngakirikiri Vineyard in Hawke’s Bay and used to make a reserve wine.

This new addition to Esk’s Artisanal range is made from those grapes. Smooth, soft red with more noticeable acidity than southern French Grenache. Very classic Grenache aromas of red fruit and a smooth texture with elegance and without any hint of new oak flavour or any oak influence.

From the Whisky Cellar

The heavy new-make style of Aultmore lends itself perfectly to Sherry cask maturation and here is whisky from this very distillery, distilled in October 2011 and bottled in August 2021, that spent its entire maturation in a first-fill Oloroso Sherry Butt made from American (not the typical Spanish) Oak.

Colour: Burnished Copper.

Nose: Creamy mocha, barley sugar, dark fruits and butterscotch.

Palate: Condensed milk, fresh roasted Arabica coffee beans, California raisins and peanut brittle.

Finish: Mouth-filling and sweet with a creaminess that lingers long.

Glenglassaugh Distillery produces a medium bodied spirit with a heather-honey sweet style and this particular whisky, was distilled in November 2014 and bottled in August 2021 having spent a lengthy period of ‘finishing’ in a first-fill Oloroso Sherry Quarter Cask.

Colour: Tawny Brown.
Nose: Strawberry fondant, peppery warmth and dark toffee.
Palate: Sweet notes of plum jam, dark chocolate and strawberry tart with the warmth of red peppercorns.
Finish: Great structure and length for a relatively youthful whisky. Rich chocolate covered cranberries.
