This whisky is a story of provenance. A single malt shaped by an icon of Australian red wine. Starward Octave Barrels is a new distinctly Australian whisky that celebrates the very best of Australian red wine and whisky craftmanship. When a whisky speaks to Australia’s wine heritage and progressive Australian whisky craft, you know it will be special. Bringing the bold flavour from Yalumba’s old vine Shiraz, Starward Octave Barrels is an intense, deliciously different whisky. This special Starward Projects release has been aged in Yalumba’s The Octavius Shiraz 100L octave-sized barrels. Maturing in these hand-coopered vessels has led to intense interaction between wood and whisky. The elegant flavours of this distinctive Barossa old vine shiraz has left its mark. It’s a full-bodied and plump expression. Aromas of raisin, ripe peach and caramel meld with red and dark forest fruit characters. Toasty oak and marshmallow have been extracted from the oak barrel staves, leaving a long and rich finish.

A decadent single-malt whisky. Starward have taken inspiration from Tawny #1, and fully matured this spirit in both fresh and charred, Tawny fortified wine casks. To mix things up, they threw in some puncheon and hogshead barrels for fun, which allowed vibrant tropical flavours to come through. 

Vibrant and indulgent. Expect welcoming flavours of dried fruits, toasted oak and brown sugar. As warm and comforting as Nan’s fruit cake.

Irresistible to sip neat. Strong enough to stand in a cocktail. 

Colour: Burnt orange 
Aroma: Dried fruit/raisins, toasted oak, fig and dried orange.   
Palate: Initial sweetness on the front palate, rich dried fruits, brown sugar and nutmeg. 
Finish: Palate slowly dries from the spice leaving a well-balanced finish 

This Pinot Noir is one of our favourites and comes from Wellington's closest wine region, the Wairarapa; Gladstone, to be precise, where winemaker Karl Johner has what you might call a foot in both camps. The German born winemaker produces wine at his winery in Gladstone in the New Zealand summer. In our winter, he hot foots it back to Germany to work harvest at his winery there.

The wines from both places are classic, elegant expressions of aromatic grape varieties; high points are Pinot Noir, Riesling and Pinot Gris; made in a range of styles.

This Pinot Noir is a dry, medium bodied, earthy and smooth. Bottled unfined and unfiltered. This wine ticks the vegan friendly box.

We finished our red-wine-barrel-aged Australian single malt whisky in heavily peated whisky-drenched barrels from Islay, Scotland. And for the first time, you’ll taste coastal, peaty, smoky flavour in our signature fruit-forward whisky.

AROMA / Tropical fruits, toasted oak and a hint of sweet peat.

PALATE / Ripe red berries, coastal peat smoke, yellow peach and cocoa nibs.

FINISH / Oak slowly dries the palate, with a long peated finish.

COLOUR / Sunset gold

Hand harvested grapes were whole bunch pressed and treated to a long, slow fermentation followed by nine months of lees aging, which adds weight, texture and interesting savoury flavour notes to this medium bodied, dry Sauvignon Blanc. This wine ticks all the boxes; with its concentrated flavours, dry style, the integrity of 100% hand harvested grapes which are certified organic.

Churton founder and winemaker Sam Weaver cut his teeth on the classic wines of the world while working in fine wine retail in the United Kingdom. His background is in microbiology and he was raised on a farm, so when he and his wife Mandy founded Churton Estate, it combined all of his passions. The couple and their adult sons, have created one of this country's most high quality small wineries, which lives up to the dream of creating 100% estate grown grapes, 100% certified organic production and 100% bottled on site, nearly all of the wines without fining or filtration. All grapes are hand picked and natural yeasts ferment the majority of Churton wines. These incremental qualitative decisions impact at every step of their winemaking provides exceptional quality grapes which in turn express themselves in outstanding wines.

Grüner Veltliner is Austria's indigenous claim to white wine fame and is a grape not only best known from that country but also rarely grown elsewhere. This dry full bodied white is made 100% from Gruner grapes grown in Kamptal, Austria.

It has flavours of citrus and green apples and stonefruit and high acidity provides freshness and a lingering finish. A deliciously different dry white. 

A nod to the history of Speyside, Benriach Temporis is peated, as they did back in the 1970s. It's been matured in a mix of bourbon barrels, virgin-oak casks, and Pedro Ximenez and oloroso sherry casks, adding in layers of fruit and spice on top of Benriach's honeyed peat smoke character.

Bouscasse represents the most open and polished wine from Alain Brumont's extensive holdings in the region. The vines are planted on hillsides with yellow and white clay layered over fissured limestone. Bouscasse is meant to reflect the history of the region, made in the style of the 18th century heyday of Madiran.

The wine is big and bold, packed with both fruit and tannins. It has great structure and a dense dusty tannic character that promises great aging but which will be drinking now with a dcent decant.

Tannat 40%, Cabernet Sauvignon 35% and Cabernet Franc 25%

This is a great example of Chardonnay without the influence of oak. It remains smooth and full bodied with balance from crisp, fresh, food friendly acidity adding great depth and appeal to the refreshing flavours of green apple note on the nose and palate.

* Chablis is the northernmost wine region in Burgundy, which produces only Chardonnay. The cooler climate gives these wines crispness, acidity and a flintyje ne sais quo. 

Drinks beautifully with great seafood dishes and roast tender chicken. 

Our Flander's Red- Red Bonnet Original, aged in a Waitaki Pinot Noir barrel for one year. Further aged for six months on North Otago sour cherries, with further bottle ageing. Cherry flavour is full with coconut nuances.

Seresin Estate's Zosia Rose is a superbly flavoursome rose that has rich dark fruity flavours, thanks to being made from the Abel clone of Pinot Noir (the king of Pinot grapes) grown on a north facing plot in the Raupo Vineyard in Marlborough.

 Savoury depth adds complexity to this medium bodied rose, which tastes more like a pale red wine more than a youthful pink one. Wild yeast fermentation in old French oak with partial malolactic fermentation adds softness to the wine.

Organic certification

The organic story at Seresin

One of the greatest things about Seresin Estate is the organic certification. This came relatively early on for Seresin, who was dismayed by the amount used and the impacts of man made chemicals, which were routinely and frequently sprayed on vines. His early adopting philosophy of organic certification paved a positive path for the integrity of the wines as well as leading others to follow suit.
