Liefmans Goudenband is one of the most distinctive dark beers in the world. Originally called IJzerenband (Iron Band) – a reference to the iron bands around the beer barrels – the bottle gained its champagne cork when it was renamed Liefmans Goudenband (Gold Band). Made in open vats with beer of mixed fermentation, it is left to mature for four to 12 months in the cellar. Mature beer is then fortified with younger beer, so the fermentation process starts up again.

On the taste buds you will find hints of apple and cherries, combined with woody notes, while the aftertaste hints at nuts and dried raisins. The mildly acidic taste make this beer a perfect match for blue cheese.

8% ABV.

Lusciously creamy on the tongue, this Imperial Strength Milk Stout is stronger and sweeter than its Double Cream sibling. You can expect the same full-bodied mouthfeel and bittersweet, mocha aromatics with a hint of spice from the Moutere and Willamette hops.

Delirium Tremens' brother, Delirium Nocturnum, is a darker style of Belgian ale from the Huyghe Brewery, featuring more robust notes of well-roasted malt at its core. As ever, it comes in their unique bottles with the very cool labels...

Plenty of the fruit notes from the Delirium Tremens can be found here, namely banana and ripe pear, but now it's joined by a generous helping of chocolate malt goodness. Bitterness is more restrained than the Tremens, too. More focus is put on the caramel sweetness and vibrant fruit.

Marlborough's Renaissance has had a cracking year taking out both the Champion Brewery Award at the NZ Beer Awards and Champion Small Brewery Award in Australia. Stonecutter is their flagship combining a rich complex caramel and coffee malt character with a hint of peat smoke, and a raisin and marmalade fruitiness. Stonecutter is every bit the match to a charred steak off the barbecue.

Commissioned by the adventuring brewer John Martin in 1944, Guinness Special Export stout packs a punch befitting his Belgian brewery.  8% alcohol creates a strong body.  Rich malty flavors combine with smoky roasted barley.  Licorice and butterscotch play supporting roles, along with molasses, hints of vanilla and dark fruit accents.  An Irish stout with a continental edge

Emerson's - One for the hopheads, Bird Dog is full of intense flavours courtesy of American hops to deliver a smooth, resiny beer. Tropical fruit dominates the flavour with subtle fresh squeezed orange with a hint of pine thrown in.
