This week we release a very special collaboration with the Yeastie Boys. Last year we took advantage of  Stu from Yeastie Boys being in the country to brew a special old ale utilising both the old British brewing technique of long boiling to gain strength and colour and a strain of wild yeast cultured from a 1977 bottle of Bass Jubilee Ale. We made use of Stu?s jet lag and boiled right through the night turning the wort from pale gold to dark brown via kettle caramelization. The beer was then fermented with our English yeast strain before heading into 500L oak puncheons to referment with the wild yeast for 6 months. The result is malty, fruity, and firmly bitter, with a leathery tangy note from the wild yeast. The beer was brewed to honour the life of my father who passed away last year. While it tastes good now it is designed to be laid down and we have put a 2060 best before date on it.

A golden, gluten-free ale made with sorghum, rice, and New Zealand Goldings hops, Auro Gluten-Free Ale is clean, very clear, light and refreshing, with full malty flavour and body.

Brewer's Notes

We really care about our beer and making the best quality beer possible. Auro Gluten-Free Ale is no exception and is made under HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points). It has 4 stages where we check for the absence of gluten in the beer - in the kettle, in the fermenter, post filtration, and in package. We use an industry accepted method for testing for the presence of gluten (gliadin and hordein proteins) which has an incredibly low threshold of detection of 1PPM (which is well below the accepted minimum detection level of 3PPM). Food Standards Austalia New Zealand specifies that a product may only be called Gluten-Free if there is no gluten detected and considers a result of less than 3PPM as suitable for calling "Gluten-Free". We test ourselves at a far more stringent level of testing than is applied in the US, EU, UK, Australia or New Zealand. We are confident that we are achieving this result and would not release the beer if it tested otherwise. We produce other products which do contain gluten and have a very rigorous cleaning schedule which we follow prior to making our gluten-free beer. Breweries are typically kept to a very high standard of cleanliness, but there are problem points which we have identified on our brewhouse where proteins can build up as staining or deposits. To address this we perform a second level of cleaning beyond our usual caustic-based standard cleaning procedures with an intensive renovation cleaning procedure prior to making Auro. To do this we strip off key fittings from the brewhouse and manually clean the problem areas and visually inspect all surfaces to make sure they are not stained with deposits, and then use a hot-acid detergent wash of all the food contact surfaces in our kettle, heat exchanger, and transfer hose.

St.Bernardus Tripel is a traditional abbey ale brewed in the classic "Triple" style of Belgium's best Abbey Ales. It has a blond to pale amber color with a wonderful head, slightly sweet aroma and the orangey-grassy flavors of hops in the finish. Wonderfully drinkable and surprisingly light.

On the outskirts of Brussels there is a very old tradition of making beer by fermenting it spontaneously with microbes from the air. Rustica is our own take on these Spontaneous beers and was fermented entirely with the cocktail of microbes taken from the Waikanae wind.  Much like a baker making sourdough bread we captured the wild and produced something complex and tasty. Try it like the Belgians do with some ripe pungent cheese and cured sausage.

Kriek Mariage Parfait is an “Old Style Kriek” of exceptional excellence, brewed in Lembeek, the village that gave Lambic its name.  It is unsweetened, unfiltered, unpasteurised and has no artificial flavours, preservatives or colourings added.

Dominated by loads of fresh tart cherry notes with some mild barnyard and some vanilla notes,  balanced against a backdrop of musky roasted oak. 

8% ABV.

Irish Whiskey Cask matured Scottish Stout. Scotland is renowned for making whisky, Ireland for making stout. This beer brings together and celebrates both nations by turning that convention on its head.
Jet black in colour. Aromas of dark chocolate, espresso and vanilla, with a full malt character. A beautifully balanced bitterness gives way to a long, chocolatey finish.
Mellow, complex, and decidedly different from the usual.

Betelgeuse Red IPA is named after the colossal red supergiant lighting up the Orion constellation. And just like its namesake, this beer is radiant, and impossible to ignore.

PRODUCT OF GERMANY. The naturally cloudy mix of 50% Kellerbier and 50% lemon soft drink convinces with its fruity, not too sweet taste and is completely without artificial sweeteners. Sparkling and refreshing with 0,0% vol. alcohol, it is the perfect alternative.

Red IPA, 5.5% 
A mature beer for a mature pallet... Big toffee malt richness with citrus hop bite to back it up. Mmm tastes like the season we're in.

Żywiec is a 5.6% ABV Polish pale lager brewed with Marynka hops and mountain water since 1856. Malty, floral, and crisp with gold medal pedigree.

Kaiserdom Wheat Beer 4.7% Can 1L

PRODUCT OF GERMANY. Liquid gold, unfiltered with a creamy foam crown – the unique character of the yeast-white beer. Golden yellow with orange reflections is adorned with a firm foam that has a creamy consistency. A striking scent of bananas emerges. The fruity note is also continued on the palate. Delicately effervescent and refreshing at the same time, the full-bodiedness seduces you with a fine hoppy aftertaste.

Pabst Blue Ribbon or PBR to those who love and live it, is a premium lager crafted with a nice whack of 6-row barley and a tailored combination of Pacific domestic hops blended with an imported Yugoslavian variety. Fermented with a pure culture of yeast and aged at high gravity, PBR is cellared and finished to the smooth, robust likeness of a fine Pilsner. Put simply, this is the perfect summer thirst quencher imported straight from the heart of USA.

A delicious IPA from the Savoie. This brewery uses only Christal hops for the fermentation, giving a piney flavour and low IBU.
