Originally released for the Travel Retail market, this edition of Jack Daniels Tennessee Whiskey is bottled at 100 proof, adhering to the rules sets as part of the Bottled in Bond Act, which was passed all the way back in 1897. After it's distilled over in Kentucky, the liquid was aged in new charred white oak barrels for the entirety of its four years. Eventually, it was bottled at cask strength, a warming 57.2% ABV. An outstanding rye whiskey that proves great value for money.

Nose: Aromas of Bakewell tart and cherry jam, with toasty oak, cinnamon and salted caramel.

Palate: Wonderfully chewy with a big hit of rye spice, burnt vanilla custard and velvety, melted dark chocolate.

Finish: More tart cherry returns alongside a touch of banana, rounded off by a wave of oak spice.

Jim Beam Kentucky Rye whiskey is not a bourbon (obviously... it's a rye whiskey and so based on a rye recipe rather than a corn-based one for bourbon) but rather represents one of the Beam efforts at the rye whiskey market. Since the 1990’s, the Michter’s team has been doing pioneering work to re-establish the high quality American Rye whiskey category. 

The May 2015 inaugural release of Michter’s US*1 Barrel Strength Rye marked yet another milestone in that quest. 

For maturation, the Rye distillate is entered into the barrel at 103 proof, rather than amore industry standard higher proof. Barrel entry at a lower proof of 103 rather than a higher proof costs Michter’s more money in terms of barrels and warehousing, but they believe it yields a richer, smoother, more full-bodied whiskey after proper maturation. 

A single barrel product, each barrel of Michter’s US*1 Barrel Strength Rye is bottled at its particular alcohol level at the time of bottling. The majority of barrels in the releases range from 107 to 112 proof. 

A four grain spirit (made with organic oats, barley, rye and wheat) aged in charred oak barrels from Minnesota for around two years.
