Montefico is one of the richer of the Cru wines from Produttori coming from a warm clay soil site. A deep and lush wine that is more forward in its youth but that will still profit from long cellar ageing.

Made entirely from the highly structured, exceptionally age worthy Nebbiolo grape in the small and outstanding wine area of Barbaresco by Produttori del Barbaresco. This highly respected winery cooperative was founded in 1958 and now has 51 members who collectively own approximately 100 hectares of the entire appellation, which means they own approximately a seventh of the appellation. The single vineyard wines, such as this one, are only made in highly rated vintages (all of the grapes go into a blend in other years) and released after four years maturation in the riserva programme. 

All single vineyard cru wines from Produttori del Barbaresco are fermented at 30°C and given 32 days of skin contact time before being pressed in large oak barrels for 36 months of maturation in wood followed by a further nine months aging in bottle, prior to release. 

Classic old school Negroamaro created by the legendary oenologist Severino Garofano; considered to be one of Puglia’s greatest. Severino passed away in 2018, and the winery is now run by his brilliant son and daughter. Both are trained winemakers, who only work with Negroamaro – Salento’s most ancient grape variety.

Redolent of liquorice and tobacco with cherry fruit and spice, this is an elegant wine that totally over-delivers for its price.

For the Vigneti Romio line, parent company, Caviro has meticulously selected highly-regarded vine growers from Romagna and the finest grape varieties of the region, trusting in the winemakers that combine the most modern production processes and equipment with the experience gained over many generations.

This is a fruity, floral sparkling wine and has dominant notes of red fruits and hints of peach, resulting in a delightfully fresh and aromatic bouquet. On the palate it is fresh, tasty and crunchy with a tight and fine bead.

The 2021 Le Difese is redolent of crushed red berry fruit, rose petal, lavender, spice and sweet pipe tobacco. Medium in body yet nicely layered, the 2021 is impeccably balanced. It is also a sheer delight to taste at this early stage. In many vintages, Le Difese is a fruity, forward wine, but the 2021 has a nervy feeling of classicism that is hugely appealing. It's one of my favorite recent vintages. As it has been for some time, Le Difese is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon from the estate and Sangiovese purchased from several properties in Chianti Classico, with the energy of Sangiovese very much driving the feel in this vintage.

If you like Pinot Noir, you will adore this southern Italian red made from grapes grown high up on the slopes of Etna. 

Nerello Mascalese is the delicate Sicilian rival to Pinot Noir, a seductive indigenous red grape of Mount Etna, the active fiery volcano on which it grows at 900 metres above sea level in this luminous, silky, surprisingly deeply flavoursome but pale coloured red. Grapes in this wine were hand picked, destemmed and fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel vats with ageing in French oak for 12 months.

Bright, shimmering pink. On the nose fresh forest berries, a light citrus scent with spicy undertones. On the palate juicy, crispy with a perceivable saltiness. Clear and fresh on the finish.

"A solidly built red introduced by aromas of mint, lavender and wild rosemary. Shows cherry, raspberry, earth, iron, sanguine and tobacco flavors allied to an almost viscous texture as this cruises to the long finish. Impressive now, yet will be better in three to f ive years. Best from 2026 through 2045."

'The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Vigna Montosoli is coy in the glass, youthfully restrained and requires coaxing to reveal its delicate bouquet. With time, a dusty display of dried roses, licorice, cherries, cloves and camphor emanates from the glass. This model of purity is polished, silky and refined with savory spice and mineral-laden red fruits that saturate, all perfectly guided by brisk acidity. It leaves the palate stained in primary concentration, turning inward upon itself. Tart currant and mentholated herb notes add freshness to a web of fine-grained tannins. The 2019 is a breathtaking interpretation of Montosoli fruit. Drink 2027-2042'

Ashen stones, violets and balsam herbs complicate depths of dried black cherries, sage and clove. This is deeply textural and seductive, balancing ripe red and black fruits with sweet spice and minty herbal tones that create a kaleidoscope of sensation on the palate. A salty flourish shines through the finale, along with a crunchy tinge of blackberry seeds to contrast, as fine-grained tannins wrap the senses with youthful poise and a bitter twang resonates. 'Produced since the 2015 vintage, Vigna Casaccia is fashioned from 30-year-old vines of the BBS11 clone. Reaching 315 metres, the plot is characterised by a high percentage of brown, magnesium-rich clay. Surely the most impressive release yet, the 2019 exhibits the cru?s intrinsic sumptuous character and girth, along with telltale resinous herb nuances of rosemary, thyme and eucalyptus. yet this year, there is an extra spark. Through that expansiveness, an underlying firmness keeps this from overflowing its limits. Plump fruit marked with a mineral lick and terracotta earthiness is all wrapped up in smooth, velvety tannins, and it carries its 15% alcohol with ease and grace. Drink 2026-2041'

'Dusty violets, lavender and cloves accentuate dried black cherries as the dramatic 2019 Brunello di Montalcino smolders up from the glass. This is impossible to ignore, bursting with energy as depths of ripe red fruits, chalky minerals and exotic spices saturate all they touch, balanced by textures of pure silk. The 2019 finishes with fantastic length and concentration, leaving a staining of tart blackberry and hints of orange that curl the tongue as crunchy tannins tug at the palate. It’s rare to see such a combination of vibrancy and power. Canalicchio di Sopra nailed it in 2019. Wow. Drink 2026-2042'

Idda Etna Bianco is a white wine from Mount Etna, Sicily, made from the Carricante grape variety. The wine is a collaboration between Italian winemaker Angelo Gaja and grower Alberto Graci and offers real complexity with a firm texture, deep minerality and vibrant acidity. 

Nose - Notes of lemon oils, wild herbs, orange blossom, young peaches, crushed stone, wisteria, cantaloupe and marzipan.

Palate - Tropical citrus, melon, saline hints, florals, peach, passion fruit and papaya.

Abbazia di Novacella 'Praepositus' Riesling is a dry, white, semi-aromatic wine from Italy's Trentino Alto Adige region. It is a straw yellow colour with golden highlights, and aromas of pineapple, peach, yellow pulp fruit, honey and flint. The palate is linear, racy and savoury, with strong minerality.

The grapes for this wine come from the Conca di Bressanone in the province of Bolzano, at altitudes between 650 and 750 meters above sea level. The wine is vinified and aged in stainless steel, and is a regular winner of the Tre Bicchieri award.

The Abbazia di Novacella wine estate dates back to 1142, and has been an important cultural and spiritual center since medieval times

Vesevo Taurasi 2013 is a red wine from the Campania region of Italy, made from Aglianico grapes. It has a deep ruby red colour, with a pungent nose of plum, red fruit, and savoury hints. It ages in oak for 16 months and a further three in bottle prior to release., resulting in a wine that is spicy on the palate, with firm tannins but a smooth finish. Here it is offered with significant age showing lovely tertiary flavour notes of cedar and further spice.

Tommasi Crearo Veronese IGT is a full-bodied wine made by Giancarlo Tommasi from the vineyards of Conca d'Oro in the Valpolicella Classica zone. It has a deep ruby red color and a rich bouquet of aromas, including violets, ripe cherries, tobacco, and vanilla. The wine is made from 60% Corvina, 15% Oseleta, and 25% Cabernet Franc grapes.
