PEGASUS BAY PINOT NOIR 16/17

PEGASUS BAY PINOT NOIR 16/17

The Donaldson family are among the earliest pioneers of modern winemaking in North Canterbury and they have deservedly built up a massive following for their outstanding wines, both red and white.

This Pinot Noir expresses the greatness of North Canterbury as a wine region, a place with a long growing season, thanks to hot days, cool nights and long autumns, which allow winemakers three to ripen their grapes gradually, retaining acidity for freshness and developing earthy savoury flavours.

The winemaking team here is headed up by Mat Donaldson, who has increased the portion of whole bunch fermentation in the PInot Noirs, of late, which translates to firmly structured wines to last the distance. And this is a keeper. Big, bold, dry and elegant right now, it will also age and evolve positively for up to and beyond a decade in a good wine cellar.
