This gin is all about Chardonnay, which is combined here with classic and modern gin botanicals. Cocchi is celebrating its 130th anniversary with the launch of a limited-edition Barolo Chinato  modelled after a 19th-century recipe. Guilio Cocchi, a pastry chef, founded his namesake company in Asti in 1891. To commemorate its 13 decades, Cocchi has created a single vineyard, single-cask, single  vintage aromatised wine called Barolo Chinato Tipo Esportazione, based on a recipe first  developed in the 19th century exclusively for export markets. The recipe was originally formulated with a higher ABV and a specific  blend of herbs and spices, so it would maintain its quality throughout  long journeys by ship. The new bottling is made from the 2016 Barolo DOCG vintage grown in  a single vineyard on the Castiglione Falletto Estate, Piedmont, Italy.  The expression’s botanicals include cinchona bark, rhubarb root,  gentian flowers, laurel leaves, cardamom, coriander and orange  peel. Sitting at 18% ABV, the Barolo Chinato was created for straight  sipping and is said to pair well with dark chocolate. 

THE BOTTLE Each bottle is wax-sealed by hand and features a reproduction of the 1900s label.  In preparation for the gifting season, it comes in a ‘luxury’ box, along with reprints of vintage  Cocchi postcards The Barolo Chinato Tipo Esportazione is a highly collectable Limited Edition distributed in  premium packaging: • Reproduction of 1900’s label, hand drawn and printed with vintage technique • Each bottle is sealed by hand with sealing wax and stamp. • Premium wooden box with brass plate. • Accompanied by reprint of vintage Cocchi postcards.

TASTING NOTES On the nose, it offers rich, woody notes of cinchona bark, dried  tobacco leaves, dried roses and cocoa beans, while the palate  brings sweetness, dark berries, violets, velvety tannins along with  cardamom, liquorice and bitter orange peel. The finish delivers  charred wood, cloves and eucalyptus, plus lingering dark  chocolate. Limited edition of 1200 numbered bottles.

Named for the Hector?s dolphins that swim off Akaroa, Hector?s Gin comes in flavour profiles foraged from Banks Peninsula. Kelp, manuka, thyme, lavender, and lemon myrtle gathered by local foragers are blended with classic botanicals to create a dry gin with a slight minerality on the finish. Only the sake from the very middle part of the pressing process is used, after it has been laboriously drip pressed. This middle take is the cleanest and most delicate portion of sake. Without processing, aging or blending, it immediately offers up sake with naturally well balanced flavours, gentle umami, soft viscosity and delightful aromas. In order to share this with you, the sake has been bottled in this fresh, untouched condition; un-filtered, unpasteurised and un-diluted.

The Cotswolds Distillery in Stourton is up and running - hooray! This is their Cotswolds Dry Gin, made with juniper, coriander and angelica root macerated in their pure wheat spirit for 24 hours. Following this, they add a botanical selection including bay leaf, grapefruit, lime, black pepper, cardamom seed and Cotswolds lavender to their carter head still for distillation. To bring it down to bottling strength, a robust 46% ABV, they use naturally refined Cotswolds water.

Nose: Light, floral juniper blends well with the Cotswolds lavender. This soon gives way to the vibrant grapefruit peel and warming cardamom.

Palate: Opening with grapefruit, fresh juniper and black pepper, followed by herbaceous notes of bay leaf, coriander and angelica. More lavender brings a bright, delicate character to the full-bodied gin.

Finish: Refreshingly clean on the palate, with lime and bay leaf.

Following on from Glenmorangie's A Tale of Cake, the magnificent distillery has gone and created A Tale of Winter. Director of whisky creation Dr. Bill Lumsden wanted to evoke the feeling of winter, of sitting in front of a fireplace while the snow fall outside, and to do so, he finished a bourbon barrel-matured single malt in ex-Marsala wine casks. All those rich, comforting, chocolatey notes certainly put this one in the 'winter warmer' category.

Nose: Honeycomb, chocolate digestives, fragrant lavender, sultana, and cinnamon.

Palate: Cocoa, Brazil nuts, vanilla tablet, jammy red berry sweetness developing, crystallised ginger.

Finish: Spicy ginger remains, mellowed by vanilla and chocolate mousse.

Made with 100% handpicked agave and well water from 140 meters deep, creating a bold spirit full of mineral and earthy flavors and rich agave aroma and taste.

• Flavor - whiskey/oak, light maple, some leather, a fruity (apple) presence, mild spice, a pinch of vanilla and smoke, and some cinnamon.
• Taste - medium oils, very little heat, caramel, spice, light chocolate, mild cinnamon, smooth, and some buttery notes.
• Finish - mild chocolate and caramel, a pinch of spice and smoke, some minor heat with mild leather, in a medium/long finish.
