The blending of Viognier with Shiraz (aka Syrah) is a traditional French winemaking method from the Northern Rhone Valley appellation of Cote Rotie and some other areas. South Australian winemaker Johnny Quarisa takes his cue from that great wine region and blends a dash of Viognier with this Shiraz to enhance its dark fruit flavours and robust tannic style. The softness and rich fruity flavours that a little Viognier brings adds approachable drinkability to this full bodied dry red. It drinks well now and can further age for three to four years, even at this modest price.

Unit price perNovelist and Hawera luminary Ronald Hugh Morrieson was a big wrestling fan. His idol was Lofty Blomfield, a lion of the ring whose sickest move was the Octopus Clamp. He and his mates used to drink a brew from the Hawera Brewery called “O.C.” which Ron promptly dubbed Octopus Clamp. We’re going the rest of the way and making it for real as a chocolatey Schwarzbier with stone fruit and caramel flavours.

Unit price perGlenmorangie gathers the silky, fruity spirit from their giraffe-high stills and let it steep in American oak casks. No less than 15 years later, a portion goes into Oloroso sherry casks for three more years.
Once 18 years have passed, the two spirits are reunited to create a warm balance of sweet, floral lushness. Rich marmalade flavours brush against honey and fig, touches of caramelized orange and far-off campfire smoke.

Unit price perA classic dry fino that tastes like sherry, but is made made from the Pedro Ximénez grape (rather than, more typically, Palomino) and is completely unfortified as well as coming from Montilla-Moriles rather than Jerez, which is the city where sherry comes from.
This wine was made following the traditional solera ageing system in barrels and was aged under a veil of natural yeast known as the flor - exactly like sherry. This gives the wine its distinctive flavours of toasted almonds, olives and salty tang, finishing on a clean and refreshing flavour note.
It is one of the rare wines which will happily partner dishes containing vinegar. Pair it with jamón serrano, mussels, salted Marcona almonds, marinated olives, croquettes, clams or gazpac

Unit price perTamdhu's new 'Distinction' celebrates the influence of the distillery's use of American Oak ex-Oloroso sherry casks. The wood (Quercus Alba) used in these barrels offer the flavour of vanilla pudding, dates and chocolate, with a mouth-coating fruit-syrup quality. Cherries and subtle citrus notes cut through on the nose, while the palate and fish are dense and full, with the oak having a final say in spices and chocolate again to finish.

Named after the version of a film which most reflects the director’s vision, Director’s Cut wines represent our winemaker’s vision of varietal wines, which express true appellation character.
In the film business, the “Director’s Cut” emerged as a means for filmmakers to present their own creative vision of a story. At Francis Ford Coppola Winery, Director’s Cut wines were created as a way for our winemakers to craft wines that would reflect their own unique interpretation of the quintessential Sonoma wine.

Unit price perA silky red with light spicy aromas and lovely depth of flavour with layers of red and dark fruit on the palate due to the inclusion of four different grapes in the blend of this wine. Three French grapes lead the way with Shiraz 56%, Grenache 17% and Cinsault 17%, all supported here by the dark deep flavours of Portugal's Tinta Barocca which contributes 10%.
A portion of foot stomping helps to extract colour and juice prior to fermentation.
Ageing is in older, larger 4000 litre oak for 16 months.
From the winery...
The 2014 AA Badenhorst is our ninth release of this appellation wine. The wine has the potential to age very gracefully for the next decade or so. The tannins are prominent and well integrated and refreshing as a number of the parcels were picked quite early. The aromas are more upfront than normal with complex notes of pepper, liquorice, perfume and black cherries. The palate entry is quite dense with lavender and dark berry fruit. The finish is dry with well spread tannins ending with savoury and currant flavours.

Unit price perCasg Annamh means 'rare cask' in Gaelic. This expression is significantly influenced by the finest quality, hand-selected Oloroso Sherry casks. The liquid is matured in three types of casks; European oak Sherry casks and two different types of American oak casks resulting in a rich and intense whisky.

Unit price perThis wine comes from the Piana Rotaliano area in the Adige Valley, tucked between the Dolomites. Despite numerous attempts to acclimatise it in other regions, Teroldego remains deeply bound to its mountains and the unique environment of the Piana Rotaliana. Think Cru Beaujolais in terms of style, with plenty of fruit but enough structure and complexity to back it up. This is a fruit forward wine with complexity, length and structure. Biodynamic and organic.
