London, October 17, 1814, one of the Horse Shoe Brewery’s massive beer vats collapses releasing over half a million litres of porter, demolishing nearby buildings and killing eight people - their causes of death variously described as drowning or drunkenness. The Great Deluge, brewed with barley, oats, roasted wheat and East Kent Goldings, then aged in oak barrels for over a year with brettanomyces and lactobacilli creating a throwback style porter with dark chocolate and coffee notes and a restrained tart twist. Enjoy in moderation.

De Koninck Bolleke is a Belgian ale from Antwerp City Brewery. This Spéciale Belge beer is locally recognised as ‘The taste of Antwerp’ and can be found throughout the city, in every bar, cafe and pub, being enjoyed by locals in riverside terraces. The beer was so-named Bolleke after the bowl-shaped glass in which it’s served.

Pouring clear amber with a cream-coloured head, De Koninck Bolleke has a malty, slightly hoppy character with hints of caramel and cinnamon. It’s traditionally brewed using water, yeast, 100% pure malt and hops, with no added maize or brewing sugar. Torpedo Extra IPA takes its name from the device that Sierra Nevada invented to dry hop the beer adding aromatic oils to the conditioning brew without adding undue bitterness. Torpedo IPA utilizes Magnum, Crystal and the new Citra hop varieties in the whole cone form. Torpedo pours a brilliant gold with a healthy white head. On the nose there are complex layers of tropical fruit, grapefruit, orange, black pepper, and a herbaceous green note. In the mouth the beer is a raging advertisement for American hops, layers of citrus and piney resin are built upon a solid malt backbone. Finally there is a long dry finish. This is the ultimate beer for spicy cuisine.
