The Source Rosehip Gin is forged by the four seasons that blow through the Cardrona Valley in the Southern Alps, New Zealand. During his time in Scotland, Charles Edward Stuart would carry with him a mysterious draught, from which he would drink a few drops every day. Nobody knew for certain what this formula was; only that it had been created by the Royal Apothecary. The apothecary would have imbued the drink with protective properties. He must have chosen Cloves - a dried flower bud of an Indonesian tree. This aromatic spice is still used for its powerful analgesic properties. Only the most prized spices would have been used. Many are convinced that saffron was the main ingredient. Not only was it renowned for its medical and sedative properties, but it would also have given the drink its rich golden colour. The secret selection of herbs, spices and Scottish heather honey is then infused by hand into the Scotch whisky base. Hastings Distillers was formed in 2019 by Kate Galloway and David Ramonteu, an inspiring couple with a background in winemaking and an artistic philosophy of production. Hastings Distillers commitment to organics is shown in their Biogro certification, ensuring all aspects of their production (botanicals, alcohol, water, packaging) has been checked, audited and certified by New Zealand’s largest certification agency. 

Packaging

The transparent seal on their bottles is made from environmentally friendly, compostable cellulose. The bottles themselves and label paper are made by long established European manufacturers under EU environmental regulations.

London Dry

Historically, the term London Dry relates to the production methods. This dictates that the Gin must be made from pure 96% ABV neutral spirit of agricultural origin, all botanical flavour must be imparted through distillation and nothing can be added after, the Gin must be dry. While their Gins adhere to the law governing this term, they are a modern, unconventional interpretation of the classical style.

Tasting note: A bold and aromatic Gin containing 10 Organic botanicals, of which 9 are from Hawke’s Bay. Batch distilled in our 150L Arnold Holstein still and cut to strength with Kaweka spring water. Top notes of citrus and juniper. Angelica root and Kaffir lime bring floral hints and complex herbal notes.

Serving note: Perfect for a fresh Gin and tonic or a smooth addition to any Martini or cocktail.

Pusser’s Overproof is a high-strength dark rum. While the rum is produced with the same blend of rums as the Original Admiralty strength, the final product is a potent blend best used as a ‘floater’ on top of cocktails including tropical and classic tiki drinks.

Southward Distilling is a Wellington based company turning fresh New Zealand grown ingredients into deliciously refreshing spirits. This blood orange gin has a beautifully balanced bitterness from orange peel combined with the sweetness of the juice come together to form a taste of refreshing citrus, balanced by a background of juniper. Its vibrant colour is perfect for summer gin and tonics.

On the nose there’s toffee and crushed petals, buttercups in the sunshine and the hum of beehives. 

Once you taste it, warm honey runs across your tongue, the distinctive ether of elderflowers anaesthetises your palate and engages your olfactory machinery leaving you reminiscing of grazes on sunburnt knees.
